The place

Alpine 4-bunk DOC bivouac in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park (Canterbury), at 1,929 m. Free. **DOC warning**: crossing Copland Pass is considered extremely dangerous, particularly from the west, rated "difficult" with several documented deaths. Only experienced mountaineers with suitable equipment should consider the eastern approach.
