The place

Standard hut with four bunks managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Westland Tai Poutini National Park, West Coast (South Island, New Zealand), at 1,143 meters elevation in the Glaciers area near Franz Josef. Rates until 30 June 2026: NZD 10/night adult, NZD 5 youth (5-17 years), free under 5. Payment by Standard Hut Ticket (blue adult, yellow youth) deposited in the honesty box or via annual Backcountry Hut Pass. DOC warning: changing conditions in the valley make foot access impossible, and helicopter landings at the hut are prohibited. No booking.
