Cascade Creek Cabin
The place
Public USFS cabin in the Tongass National Forest, located on the mainland coast of Thomas Bay in Alaska, accessible only by floatplane (14 miles) or boat (19 miles) from Petersburg, depending on tides. Six-bunk log hunting cabin: bunks, table, benches, oil stove and wood stove for heating, outdoor latrine. Bring a sleeping bag, cookware, food, clothing and fuel. No water on site: draw and treat water from the nearby creek or bring your own. Extremely remote and wild area: bears, moose, unpredictable weather that can extend your stay. Cascade Creek Trail, moderate to strenuous, connecting Falls Lake and Swan Lake (rowboats available). Local risk of paralytic shellfish poisoning. All waste (including food) must be packed out.
