Capanna Fratelli Gugliermina
Capanna Valsesia
The place
Unstaffed refuge at 3,212 m on the south face of the Punta Parrot, in the Monte Rosa massif above Alagna Valsesia. Built in 1902 by brothers Giovanni Battista and Giuseppe Fortunato Gugliermina to ease ascents of Monte Rosa's south face, it is a copper-clad wooden structure. Managed by the CAI Varallo section, it has twelve bunks with mattresses and blankets, a living area with a kitchen, and a wood stove (bring your own fuel). Water available nearby.
Getting there
Access from Alagna (1,191 m) via the Sant'Antonio chapel, the Alpe Pile, crossing the Rio Bors torrent then the moraine ridge. Four to five hours' climb, a demanding mountaineering route with downclimbing sections.
