Cabane des Aubarets
The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 1045 m in the Préalpes de Haute-Provence (commune of Senez, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), managed by the ONF (French National Forestry Office). Currently closed, likely due to earlier vandalism — a request can be made to the ONF territorial unit in Senez for an exceptional opening. The site nonetheless remains exceptional: a very beautiful plateau with a small lake and a spring providing water even during dry periods. Comfortable camping possible on the plateau with tables and water available nearby. Remarkable position on the fringe of the northern foothills of the Verdon, in the typical Mediterranean-alpine landscapes of the Préalpes de Haute-Provence: white oak groves, Mediterranean pine forests, high-altitude garrigue, dry grasslands with orchids. Emblematic wildlife: roe deer, wild boar, griffon vulture (regular presence), golden eagle, peregrine falcon, short-toed snake eagle. Classic access from Gévaudan via a yellow-marked trail in 1 hour, or from Senez by car via a forest road.
