The place
Pastoral hut set at 1664 m in the Préalpes de Grasse et de Castellane (commune of La Garde, Castellane, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), in the Pic des Quatre Termes and Col des Portes sector. Restricted access requiring prior authorization. According to recent reports, the hut offers good insulation, dishes, a table, 5 chairs, and available tools — it is occupied by the shepherd during the summer grazing season. Mineral and pastoral setting typical of the southern Préalpes: Mediterranean pine forests, upland scrubland, downy oak groves, landscapes typical of the Nice and Grasse hinterland. Emblematic wildlife: chamois (reintroduced), roe deer, mouflon, golden eagle, griffon vulture, peregrine falcon. Located on the fringe of the Mercantour National Park and the major Verdon routes. A pastoral stopover to be respected — public use limited outside the summer grazing season.
