Cabane de Galèbre
The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 2,010 m in the Ubaye massif, in the Pas de Galèbre sector (2,496 m), which links Le Laverq (Méolans-Revel, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) to the summits of Roche Close (2,739 m) and La Mournière (2,710 m). A remarkable position above the hamlet of Mariaud (Saume Longe), on the fringe of the Préalpes de Digne and the Mercantour National Park. A stop on the high-altitude loops linking Le Laverq, the Pas de Galèbre, Roche Close, and La Mournière — one of the finest routes in the upper Laverq valley. A basic, free-access building, with minimalist equipment typical of Ubaye pastoral cabins. A mineral and forested setting in the high Ubaye valleys: larches, subalpine grasslands, views over the Trois-Évêchés massif and the Franco-Italian border. Iconic wildlife: chamois, marmot, golden eagle, griffon vulture. A popular stop for self-sufficient hikers on the Laverq-Trois-Évêchés loops.
