Bivouac E.CANZIO
The place
CAI bivouac at 3818 m at the Col des Grandes Jorasses, in the Val Ferret (Mont Blanc massif, Italian side). Dedicated to Ettore Canzio, founding member and first president of the Italian Academic Alpine Club (CAAI). Classic barrel-shaped bivouac, wooden structure clad in sheet metal, 3 × 3 m base and maximum height 3.5 m. 8 places on sleeping platforms with mattresses and blankets. Installed in 1961 on the site of a previous bivouac ("Città di Monza", installed in 1950 and mysteriously crushed on the Italian side a year later). Note: currently declared temporarily inagibile (unusable) due to a risk of collapse from foundation subsidence on the left side of the building.
