Bivouac des Périades

The place

A high-altitude bivouac perched at 3421 m on the rocky ridge of the Périades, on the French side of the Mont Blanc massif above the Argentière glacier. Built in 1925 and renovated in 1966, the old shelter, which could hold three people, was destroyed in August 2019 by a rockfall linked to climate change. A new bivouac, better insulated but limited to two mountaineers, was airlifted in by helicopter in August 2020. Access from the Refuge de Leschaux takes about 4 hours on a glacial route. Check conditions with the warden before setting out. Reserved for experienced mountaineers.
