The place

Historic bivouac hut at 3,036 m on the east flank of Monte Rosa above Macugnaga, owned by CAI Milano. Built in 1886, dedicated to Damiano Marinelli, a mountaineer swept away by an avalanche in 1881. The only support point on the parete est, a wall four kilometers wide. Ten unstaffed places. Base for major routes to Punta Gnifetti, Punta Zumstein, Punta Dufour and Punta Nordend. Modernization currently underway via crowdfunding, with a co-dedication to Flavio Migliavacca expected in 2026.
