Benson Hut

The place

Sierra Club backcountry hut at about 2546 m below the summit of Anderson Peak (Sierra Nevada, California), one of four Sierra Club huts in the Donner Pass/Lake Tahoe area. Access is 5.5 miles and about 550 m of elevation gain from the Pacific Crest Trail trailhead on Donner Pass Road. Rustic construction that can sleep about a dozen (up to 15 in an emergency): bring bedding, food, candles and utensils. Moderate usage of about 500 to 600 bed-nights per year, quieter than Peter Grubb Hut. Managed by Clair Tappaan Lodge (Sierra Club). Booking required through the Sierra Club system.
