The place
New Zealand Alpine Club hut near Beetham Stream, on the western flank of Malte Brun in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, at about 1,450 m. 4 bunks with mattresses, radio, water tank, toilet, solar lighting, kitchen bench. **Building completed in March 2021** after the original hut was destroyed by an avalanche in 1995; a new site was chosen in 2006 on a stable rocky shoulder 100 m above Beetham Stream. No direct helicopter access — approach on foot via the Tasman Glacier. Base for climbs in the Malte Brun Range, bouldering, botanical observation, photography, and alpine traverses.
