Beatty's Cabin
The place
Beatty's Cabin is a historic cabin in the Pecos Wilderness (Santa Fe National Forest, Rocky Mountains, New Mexico, USA), sitting on the banks of the upper Pecos River at around 2,975 m elevation. George Beatty, an old prospector, built his two-room log cabin on a grassy meadow by the river in the late 19th century. Author Elliot S. Barker recounted his adventures in his book "Beatty's Cabin" (1952). A popular hiking destination: an 18 km loop from Hamilton Mesa offering some of the finest views of the high peaks of the Pecos Wilderness, descending to Beatty's Cabin and the upper Pecos River through dense forest and then meadows in a narrow canyon. Water available, good to excellent trail conditions.
