The place

Sleeping places available: 1. Shepherd's/hunter's cabin, with a very good, recently-built roof. The stove's flue is in very good condition, but the stove itself is somewhat dated. The cabin appears to see little use. Firewood in reserve and a forest not far off. No fully reliable water source nearby. You might try [->10435] if it is open and the flock has not yet settled in the meadow near the pass. On site: - A recent sleeping platform. - A very old bench. - An aluminium pot. - A broom. Reach the Gaudissard meadow via a waymarked path from Le Périer (village or Pont du Gas). From there, two still-visible paths climb toward the cabin (shown on OpenStreetMap). Another access route is possible from the ruined hamlet of Les Surres (above Les Pinets). From Les Surres, take the path leading to Gaudissard for 50 m. From there, a fairly well-marked path leads, traversing the hillside, close to the cabin. The last 30 metres before arriving are almost pathless (a few cairns), but easy to cross on passable moorland. Finally, if coming from the north, on the path from the Combe Piolente, look at 1565 m elevation (cairn) for a faint path (visible on OpenStreetMap) leading to the flat area north of the cabin at 1650 m elevation. From there, the cabin is clearly visible. Unknown (contact Le Périer town hall?) Door closed with an unlocked latch. Carvings on the walls indicate regular passage by hikers since the 1970s. Cabin name to be updated?
