The place

Private high-altitude cabin at 2358 m at the head of the wild and romantic Lötschental, within the perimeter of the UNESCO Swiss Alps site (Valais). The only private, self-sufficient alpine refuge in the area, owned by Peter Tscherrig, an engineer and mountain guide. After the original building was destroyed by an avalanche in March 2007, the new construction designed by Tscherrig was completed eighteen months later. An on-site hydroelectric plant makes the cabin 100% self-sufficient, allowing it to blend refuge service with hotel-standard comfort. Accessible from Fafleralp, in the high summer season.
