The place
The Abri du Plateau du Petit Matarum is an open carbet (no wall on the trail side) at 1969 m altitude on the plateau of Petit Matarum, on Réunion Island, on the access routes to the Piton des Neiges and the plateau de Bébour. Dismantled in early June 2015, it was rebuilt as an open carbet. A permanent spring nearby is the only reliable water source in the area until the plateau de Bébour and the summit of the Piton des Neiges. Unstaffed stopover shelter for hikers.
