The place

Stone shelter at 3040 m on the southeast ridge of the Mont Buet, between a radio relay station and the summit, in the Aiguilles Rouges Reserve (Haute-Savoie). Maximum capacity of 1 to 2 people, 3 lying down if squeezed in. Rebuilt from the ruins of the deteriorated Pictet hut. You cannot stand up inside, it's not watertight against rain or snow, but it offers relative thermal insulation. Access via the ascent of the Mont Buet from Vallorcine or Passy. Since 2024, bivouacking in the Aiguilles Rouges has been regulated from June to September — booking mandatory on the dedicated platform before any overnight stay in the reserves.
