Quilotoa Loop
Le lieu
The Quilotoa Loop is a multi-day trek through the rural Andean highlands of Cotopaxi province in central Ecuador, linking a chain of small indigenous Kichwa villages connected by farm tracks, ridge paths, and canyon crossings. Walkers climb steadily in altitude over the three stages, starting around 2,900-3,000m and finishing at the Quilotoa crater rim near 3,900m, with terrain alternating between cultivated hillsides, paramo grassland, and steep-sided river canyons. The trek's defining feature is its finish at a volcanic caldera lake with striking turquoise-green water, formed by an eruption roughly 800 years ago and ringed by a rim trail with panoramic views.
