Le lieu

The Peaks of the Balkans Trail is a circular high-mountain route through the Prokletije ("Accursed Mountains") range, crossing back and forth between Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro over ten days starting and ending in Theth. The terrain features glacially-carved valleys, rugged limestone peaks, alpine tarns, and high mountain passes, waymarked with red-and-white markers and official trail signage. Hikers overnight in traditional village guesthouses converted from family homes, and cross-border permits are mandatory given the repeated international crossings; the best season runs June through October.
