Mestia to Ushguli Trek

The Mestia-Ushguli trek runs through Upper Svaneti in the high Caucasus of northwestern Georgia, linking Mestia with Ushguli, often cited as one of the highest continuously inhabited village clusters in Europe. Over roughly 46-55km and 4-5 days, the route climbs from valley villages around 1,500m through forest and alpine meadow to the Chkhutnieri Pass near 2,700m, then descends past glacier-fed rivers back into the Enguri valley. What sets it apart is the density of centuries-old Svan defensive towers rising from stone-house hamlets along nearly every stage, paired with close-up views of glaciers and snow peaks like Mount Ushba, in a region that still feels remote outside peak summer months.
