The place
Youngs Hut in Alpine National Park, Falls Creek/Mount Feathertop area (Victoria Alps, Australia), at 1654 m elevation, on the Bogong High Plains alpine plateau. Part of the continuous Alpine VIC cluster (batches 220-357). Historic cattlemen's hut ("Young" toponym from squatter grazing history, 1830s-1940s, Bogong High Plains grazing history closed under the NP Act 1974), in a zone of Eucalyptus pauciflora snow gum twisted by extreme alpine wind plus Poa costiniana snowgrass plus alpine feldmark, a unique Australian biome covering 200 km² plus Feathertop at 1922 m, VIC's 2nd highest peak after Bogong at 1986 m plus the Bogong Moth Agrotis infusa's millennia-old migration of 4-5 million larvae migrating 500 km to the Bogong mountains for summer aestivation, traditional Aboriginal food heritage spanning 40,000 years.
