Young Hut

The place

20-bunk DOC serviced-category hut located at 782 m in Mount Aspiring National Park, Wanaka-Makarora area (Otago). A stage on the Gillespie Pass circuit, roughly 6 to 7 hours from State Highway 6 (20 km). Rate NZ$25 per adult per night, NZ$12.50 for ages 5-17, free below that. Booking mandatory from late October to April; in the off-season (May to October) no booking is required but the rate remains unchanged. Backcountry Hut Passes are valid only between 1 May and 30 September; between 1 October and 30 April, a dedicated Serviced Hut Ticket is required. Bring a sleeping bag, cookware, toilet paper and fuel. Camping around the hut is prohibited, as the clearing serves as a helicopter landing zone.
