The place
The Winklmoosalm is a high-altitude cabin (Hüterhütte) located at 1160 m on the Dürrnbachhornweg in Reit im Winkl (Traunstein, Bavaria). It is the herder's (Hüter) lodging on the Winklmoos-Alm, a Bavarian ski and hiking area certified as a "Dark Sky Park" since 2018 thanks to its nature-friendly lighting. It offers 12 sleeping places across four rooms. No running water indoors, but a small fountain is right outside. In winter, the site is part of the Winklmoosalm/Steinplatte ski area; in summer, a base for hiking and mountain biking.
