The place

Standard four-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Mount Aspiring National Park, Makarora sector (southern Westland/Otago, South Island, New Zealand), at 539 metres altitude. 5-6 hour access from SH6 via the Wills Valley Track (7.5 km). Rates until 30 June 2026: NZD 10/night adult, NZD 5 youth (5-17 years), free under 5. First come, first served; payment by Standard Hut Ticket purchased in advance or Backcountry Hut Pass; the ticket pays for the night but does not guarantee a place. No visitor centre in Makarora: enquire at the Awarua/Haast or Tititea/Mount Aspiring centres.
