Wildnishütte am Glaubensberg
The place
Forest hiking cabin set about 347 m east of the summit of the Glaubensberg, in the municipality of Pudagla (island of Usedom, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany), near the Schmollensee. The Glaubensberg, a local high point at 38.6 m, offers a magnificent panoramic view over the island of Usedom and the Baltic hinterland. A low-altitude position between the Achterwasser (inland lagoon) and the Schmollensee. The Wildnishütte serves as a picnic spot and shelter in bad weather, a stop on the hiking loops of southern Usedom. The area has a singular history: below the Glaubensberg, near the Schmollensee, ruins remain of former WWII production facilities that manufactured electrical coils and other components for the Peenemünde rocket program. A mixed setting of pine forests, Baltic beaches, inland lagoons and iconic seaside resort villages (Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, Bansin).
