Whites River Hut
The place
Historic hut at 1,712 m on the Main Range of Kosciuszko National Park (NSW, Australia), nestled in the Munyang Corridor on the road to Schlink Pass from Guthega. Built in 1934 as a shepherd's hut; in 1938 an agreement was reached with the Bruce Haslingden family for winter use by the Kosciusko Alpine Club (KAC) in exchange for improvements (extra room, bed, equipment). In 1938-1939 the KAC added a dormitory, insulation, mattresses, Aladdin lamps, and kitchen furniture. A "Kelvinator" annex was added around 1962 by the SMA and removed by the NSW NPWS in 2012. In 2010 an accidental fire destroyed the interior; it was rebuilt by the NPWS with help from KHA volunteers. Current capacity details are not published online.
A bit of history
