The place

Basic six-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Mavora Lakes Conservation Park, Southland region (South Island, New Zealand). Free access. A remote hut, reachable either by boat across Lake North Mavora or from the west via the Livingstone Mountains. No DOC-marked track: self-sufficient navigation required with map, compass and GPS. Suited to experienced backcountry trampers comfortable with route-finding and self-sufficiency in remote terrain.
