Wattenheimer Häuschen
The place
Historic picnic area and shelter at 454 m elevation in the Pfälzerwald (western Palatinate), above the village of Wattenheim. Maintained by the Wattenheimer Verschönerungsverein (Wattenheim Beautification Association), with a small stone house dating from 1895 and several covered picnic areas. A very popular site for public festivals and local club gatherings. A stage on the PWV (Pfälzerwald-Verein) trails that cross the Frankenstein, Hertlingshausen and Diemerstein area, linked to the Sieben Brunnen spring and the Isenachweiher. The Grünstadt section regularly organizes hikes to the Wattenheimer Häuschen. An exceptional setting of beech forests on red sandstone typical of the Pfälzerwald, one of the largest continuous forest areas in western Germany (1771 km², a UNESCO cross-border nature park with the Vosges du Nord).

PWV trails from Wattenheim, Frankenstein (DB station) or Hertlingshausen. Connection to Sieben Brunnen and Isenachweiher.
