Watchdog Hut

The place

Standard DOC hut with 6 bunks at 825 m in the Rangitata-Rakaia area (Mid & South Canterbury, NZ). No DOC trail: independent map/compass/GPS navigation required. 4x4 access via the Clyde River, crossing the private Erewhon Station: prior authorization required. No booking: Standard ticket (adults $10, youth $5, under 4 free) or Backcountry Hut Pass. Dangerous unbridged river crossings: check NIWA, do not cross in flood.
