Waldhütte Hohwacht
The place
Waldhütte ("forest cabin") located at 1,060 m in the Solothurn area (canton of Solothurn, Switzerland, or neighbouring Bernese areas depending on GPS precision). The place name "Hohwacht" ("high watch") historically refers to medieval lookout/signal posts placed on summits — the one at Solothurn-Oberaargau (780 m) is a regional high point with an observation tower. A striking location on the heights of the Swiss plateau, in the mixed-forest area of the Swiss Jura and Oberaargau. Communal building available for rent for events and hikes, with typical Swiss Waldhütte facilities: equipped kitchen, water/electricity connections, tables and benches, fireplace, capacity for groups (typically 30-50 people). Exceptional forest setting of the Swiss plateau: beech woods, fir forests, hedgerow meadows, landscapes emblematic of Swiss agriculture. Notable wildlife: roe deer, wild boar, fox, red squirrel, red kite, peregrine falcon. Located near the themed trails of Suisse-mobile and the great plateau traverses (Via Jura, Swiss Path).
