The place

Serviced hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, Bay of Plenty region (North Island, New Zealand), at 385 metres elevation near Waihi. Sleeps 26 across two bunkrooms, with a separate dining/living area and a large outdoor deck; no cooking equipment provided. Rates until 30 June 2026: weekdays NZD 25 adult, NZD 12.50 child (5-17), free under 5; Saturdays NZD 30 adult, NZD 15 child. No rubbish collection: pack out everything you bring in. Dogs and other animals prohibited. Backcountry Hut Pass accepted. Access via the Waitawheta Tramway from a car park reached via Franklin Road (about 11 km from Waihi). Online booking (openings until 30 June 2027), same-day booking possible until 8 pm.
