Waipakihi Hut

The place

DOC standard-category hut with twelve bunks located at 1105 m in Kaimanawa Forest Park (Central North Island), with the dormitory arranged as two side-by-side rooms of six bunks each. Access via the Waipakihi River valley itself, or via the Urchin and Umukarikari tracks, frequented by trampers and hunters exploring the southern Kaimanawa Range. Central facilities: shared kitchen with wood stove, table and sink with indoor water. Valley views from the bunkrooms. Rate NZ$10 per adult per night, NZ$5 for ages 5-17, free below that, payable via standard tickets or the annual Backcountry Hut Pass. No booking. Map BH36, NZTM2000 E1855650, N5665268.
