"Serviced" DOC hut at 900 m in Egmont National Park (Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki, NZ), perched on a cliff above Waingongoro Stream. Sleeping platforms with mattresses, cold running water, fireplace with wood supplied, pit toilet nearby. Access from Dawson Falls 1 h 20 / 2.5 km; East Egmont 1 h 40 / 3.5 km. Rates adults $25/night, youth $12.50, under 4 free. Caution: no railing at the cliff edge; helipad off-limits for camping or walking. Region's highest swing bridge 5 min away (24 m above the stream); Wilkies Pools reachable from Dawson Falls. Suitable for families and novice trampers for a half-day or overnight trip.
