The place

A DNT self-service cabin built in 2006 at 822 m in the Stølsheimen, Bergsdalen, and Vossefjellene area, municipality of Kvam (Vestland, Norway). Run by Bergen og Hordaland Turlag, it sits by the Vendingstjørn lake and connects Bergsdalen and Kvammafjella, forming a bridge between fjord and mountain. T-marked routes to Vending from Hamlagrø, Fitjadalen, Gullhorgabu, Breidablik, and Kiellandbu. Total capacity of 32 beds. No electricity or running water: gas stove and gas oven, wood stove for heating, outdoor toilets, solar panels for basic lighting. The area is renowned for its fish-rich waters: an agreement between Bergen og Hordaland Turlag and the Vending landowners lets guests fish without a license in the waters closest to the cabin — rods and nets available free of charge. A family paradise for trout fishing.
