Varkaankuru Lapp Hut
The place
Kota (day-use tipi-style shelter) built in 2015, on the Varkaankuru nature trail (3.5 km from the Yllästunturi Kellokas nature center, Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, Kolari, Lapland). Fireplace, accessible dry toilets. No overnight sleeping. Protected area: access permitted only from 1 May to 30 November on marked trails.
Getting there
Demanding accessible route. Steel duckboards to protect the environment. Camping and other lodging prohibited near the kota.
The setting
Lush deciduous forest of the Varkaanoja (lehtometsä), giant ferns, strictly protected area of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park (Ylläs, Kolari).
