Unterstand Bettlachstock
The place
Shelter ("Unterstand") in the Bettlachstock area, a summit at 1298 m in the municipality of Bettlach (Lebern district, canton of Solothurn, Switzerland) — DB 1242 m. The Bettlachstock stands apart from the first range of the Swiss Jura like a huge "mossy tree stump," isolated by the erosion of two streams to the north. Beech forests over 200 years old, listed in autumn 2021 as UNESCO World Heritage "Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe"; for over 35 years, no human intervention has taken place there — a forest transitioning from managed to primeval. Waymarked trails through the area with educational panels on the European beech forest. Access by public transport from Grenchen Süd; parking at Untergrenchenberg and at the Schützenhaus Bettlach-Grenchen.
