The place
The Ulko-Tammio autiotupa is a wilderness hut on Ulko-Tammio island, the main site of the Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park, Kymenlaakso. A former small hut converted for use, 6 sleeping places and a basic kitchen (wood stove + gas cooker), drinking water from a well. These free, unstaffed autiotupa are very common in Lapland but extremely rare in southern Finland. Marked nature trails, a bird-watching tower with a beautiful view over the park. WWII remains: a shelter cave for the crew, two restored cannons. In summer 2023 Ulko-Tammio was marked as the world's first "offline island" for tourist exploration, encouraging digital detox.
