Uags
The place
Mountain Bothies Association bothy, isolated on the coast of the Applecross peninsula in the western Highlands of Scotland. Gaelic name "Na h-Uamhagan", meaning "the little caves". A spectacular seaside position with magnificent views of the Crowlin Islands and the Isle of Skye. Unless arriving by sea, Uags must be earned: from Applecross, descend towards Toscaig to the pier at the end of the road (car park), then a demanding walk over boggy ground on a rocky, muddy and sometimes indistinct path for about 8 km. Bothy maintained by MBA volunteers — the bothy code must be respected, take all rubbish back out. Ideal for wild nights to the sound of the surf, whale watching and seabird observation in season. A setting of coastal moorland in one of the most remote areas of the Scottish west coast.
Getting there
From Toscaig (Applecross), ~8 km on a rocky, muddy path, or by sea. MBA bothy code to be respected.
