The place
Etxola (Basque shepherd's cabin) at 945 m at the foot of Mount Garmendia, in the Belate pass area (Navarre, Spain). Belate is an important pass linking the oceanic part of Navarre (Baztan-Bidasoa) with the central part (Cuenca de Pamplona). A mid-mountain stop between the chapel of Santa María de Belate, Berriozokoa (983 m), Putzuetako Gaina (1062 m) and Txaruta (1080 m). Near another shepherd's shelter, Uxarreneko Borda. A classic Navarrese Pyrenean hiking loop in the Baztan Valley, an enchanted valley bordering the French Basque Country.
