The place

Basic hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in the Remarkables Conservation Area, near Queenstown, Otago region (South Island, New Zealand). Shared sleeping platform for two (no bunk beds), open-fire heating. Free access, no booking required. No DOC-marked trail: independent navigation with map, compass or GPS is required. Recommended starting points from State Highway 6 at the foot of Wye Creek, or from Nevis Road via public land (no vehicle access via Loch Linhe Station). Several unimproved stream crossings; use caution during flooding.
