Standard-category DOC hut located at 1,060 m in Kaweka Forest Park (Hawke's Bay), at the upper end of the Tussock Valley on a tributary. Equipment: wood stove, rainwater tank supplemented by stream water, food cupboard, dry pit toilet, dog kennel. Helipad 25 m behind the hut. Rate NZ$10 per adult per night, NZ$5 for ages 5-17, free below, payable via standard tickets or an annual Backcountry Hut Pass. No booking required. Variable climate, exposed to southerly weather with possible snow. Access from Boyd's Lodge in 3 hours, from Makahu Saddle Carpark or the end of Makahu Road in 2 days or more.
