Туристически заслон
The place
Tourist shelter (туристически заслон) set at about 1660 m in the Pirin massif (Pirin National Park, Bulgaria), on the slopes toward the Bezbog-Popovo ezero sector. The region has many high-altitude shelters (заслони) complementing the network of larger хижи, notably the emblematic хижа Безбог (2240 m, 102 beds) beside Lake Bezbog. A key position in the granite southern Pirin, on trails leading to the peaks Bezbog (2645 m) and Polezhan (2851 m), through the famous Popovo and Tevno lakes. The shelters are designed as permanently open emergency refuges — unstaffed, no water, no heating. A useful waypoint in case of sudden bad weather in this exposed Balkan massif. An exceptional setting of granite glacial cirques, high-altitude lakes (over 170 in the Pirin), endemic Bosnian pine and Macedonian pine forests, and large predator wildlife (wolf, brown bear).
