The place
Serviced-category DOC lodge located at 169 m in Remutaka Forest Park (Wellington-Kapiti), at the heart of the Catchpool and Ōrongorongo valleys. Thirty-two bunks in four private rooms with exclusive occupancy of eight places each (Kea, Kiwi, Kokopu, Kapowai). The building is locked, booking required in advance. Shared facilities: shared kitchen and common room, gas cooking, wood burner for heating, composting toilets. Bring sleeping bag, personal dishware, lighting (candles or headlamp), matches, and toilet paper. Access in 2.5 h via the Ōrongorongo Track then 30 min via the Big Bend Track from Truss Bridge. Rate until 30 June 2026: NZD 121 per night off-peak, NZD 143 peak, for the whole group (up to 8 people). Online booking, available until 30 June 2027.
