Standard-category DOC hut with twelve bunks spread across two bunkrooms, located at 630 m in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke's Bay). Unusual name from a shirt labelled "XXX" found there, linked to the investigation of a 1935 plane crash. Facilities: water tank, wood stove. Short access: about a 10-minute walk from the car park via a farm track, after 20 km on Wakarara Road from State Highway 50. Fee: NZD 10 adult, NZD 5 youth (5-17 years) per night, free below that age. Booking required year-round online via the DOC system, availability through 30 June 2027. Backcountry Hut Pass accepted.
