Townsend Hut

The place

Basic 4-bunk DOC hut at 1,129 m in Arthur's Pass National Park (West Coast, NZ). Free. Access from Kiwi Hut ~2 h; from Aikens Corner ~4-5 h. From Kiwi Hut: head up the Taramakau valley, cross at Michael Creek, then climb steeply through bush and alpine terrain along a narrow ridge to the hut in a tussock zone.
