Toppstugan
The place
The Toppstugan on the Dundret is a popular destination for locals and skiing enthusiasts (Friluftsfrämjandet Gällivare, Swedish Lapland). Expect about 6 km of climbing for 500 m of elevation gain from Porjusvägen. From November to May 1, the cabin is open every public holiday from 10am to 2pm. A small warming hut, always unlocked and stocked with firewood, is open year-round for shelter and warmth. The "Toppluva" (summit cap) is an honorary title awarded to the season's most dedicated skier (first awarded in 1959). About 2000 skiing enthusiasts visit the cabin every winter. The database altitude of 0 m is probably wrong (the Dundret peaks at 823 m).
