Basic DOC hut with 4 bunks at 1,220 m in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatu/Whanganui, NZ). Typical of the style built by NZ Forest Service carpenters. Site selected in 1956; built in February 1958, with 14 loads of materials air-dropped by fixed-wing aircraft in early 1958. Three workmen — Jan van de Lagemaat, Des Torrance, and Bob Norton — assembled it in about a week. Tank water and an open fireplace. Free.
