The place
Tiefrastenhütte of the AVS (Alpenverein Südtirol) at 2312 m on the shores of the Tiefrastensee, in the Pfunderer Berge — the Tyrolean sector of the Zillertal Alps —, in the upper Winnebachtal (a side valley of the Pustertal, South Tyrol, Italy). Fastest access from Terenten via the Winnebachtal in about 2 h 15. A major stage of the Pfunderer Höhenweg, an ambitious five-day alpine trek linking Vipiteno/Sterzing to San Giorgio/Sankt Georgen near Bruneck. A unique high-plateau and mountain-lake setting right next to the hut — ideal for families with children. Starting points for Eidechsspitze (2738 m) and Kemtspitze (2704 m), each less than 1 h 30 away.
