The place

Basic hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in the western part of Fiordland National Park (South Island, New Zealand), within the Fiordland Marine Area. Free access. Strict biosecurity protocol: Secretary Island is rodent-free, so visitors must inspect their gear, clean footwear and equipment (soil, seeds), and seal bags and containers before landing. Vessels entering the Fiordland Marine Area are subject to the Clean Vessel Pass and Environment Southland's Marine Pathway Plan.
