Ten Man Hut

The place

Basic 8-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in the Tongariro Forest Conservation Area, central North Island (New Zealand), at about 680 meters altitude. Building in a clearing near the Top/Clymo Track, limited facilities. Free access. Route from Ōwhango village (15 min/20 km north of National Park on SH4): Omaki Street then Ohinetonga Road, through the Ohinetonga scenic reserve, 11 km on the 42 Traverse Track then 9 km on the Top/Clymo Track. Kapoors Road access currently closed due to a collapse. 4x4 vehicles banned on the 42 Traverse Track from 1 May to 30 November, off-track driving banned year-round.
